2009 NBA Free Agency: Day 1

At 12:01 AM on July 1st, the NBA free agency period began. It is now 12:05 PM on July 1st, so guys like Hedo Turkoglu, Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva, Shawn Marion and Anthony Parker have been without a team for about 12 hours. The free agency period is still young, but rumors have already been swirling around.

According to sources, the Portland Trail Blazers are prepared to offer Hedo Turkoglu a $50 million deal. Turkoglu has made it clear he wants $10 million per year. Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix has reported Turkoglu has narrowed his desired teams down to three--the Blazers, the Pistons..and your beloved Toronto Raptors. It will be interesting to see what the Raptors and Pistons do, now that Hedo will be given a huge contract from Portland.

According to Yahoo! Sports writer Adrian Wojnarowski, the Boston Celtics are strongly pursing Raptors Anthony Parker, along with Detroit's Rasheed Wallace. Unfortunately, it looks like Anthony Parker won't wear a Raptors uniform next year. Parker has interest in many teams--to name a few--Boston, Cleveland, and teams overseas. The Raptors may just not compare to other teams, in terms of offerings.

That's about it for day 1 rumors. But we are only 12 hours in, so more surprises could occur throughout the day. Lots of speculation swirls around during this period, so stay tuned.
